Branding, Design, Illustration, Copywriting: Cobhams Accountants

This branding and brochure commission was undertaken as part of my role as art director at a small agency. It was an exercise in simplicity, with the concept leading the way and the copywriting driving the point home.

Cobhams Accountants had an existing logo design, and it was decided that a subtle rebrand was the most effective way to maintain client confidence and recognition.

The concept: flock marketing

Counting sheep is a great way to get a good night's sleep, and counting is what Cobhams do best, so I combined the two. The sheep hurdle the counting abacus like a countryside fence, and a state of dreamy confidence is achieved that is as comforting as a bedtime story. We sourced a printer that could print on this beautiful flock-effect board stock, and a lush tactile feel was achieved. The size was a cute, pocketable A5 format, and this is a format I return to time and time again as it's a great portable selling tool and easy to leave about an office.

The copywriting

As part of my service, I often craft a piece of copywriting or a script. I'm a published writer and a runner-up in the well-respected WOW festival for my novel.

Tax is a real hurdle for some.

At Cobhams we understand that for some their tax bill feels

a little like being turned over and shorn within an inch of your life.

Not fair, but Tax and Accounts are an inevitable fact of life.

Accountancy can make the best of us feel sheepish.

But it doesn't have to be like that. If you had an accountant,

who spoke in a language you could understand and of whom

you could ask the simplest of questions - then things could be so different.
